CUSTOM GLASSES FRAME
This project exemplifies the art of reverse engineering, sparked by the desire to give a new life to lenses from an old, discarded frame.
I delved into an in-depth study of frame design history, medical use, functionality, standard norms, the anatomy of the face, and more. Drawing from this research, and inspired by the idea of reusing the lenses and avoiding unnecessary waste, I crafted my unique glasses design. Playing with the advantage of 3D printing technology, I created a fully 3d printed functional frame and a fully customized pair that perfectly complements my style and face shape.
I added an innovative elastic connection for the legs, a clever alternative to traditional hinges and screws. This ingenious system significantly enhances the durability of the glasses, being able to totally bend them and easily replace and combine your frame and legs with the style that you desire. I also incorporated two small magnets onto the legs to facilitate the closing of the glasses.
We are not aware of the vast number of perfectly usable lenses that are discarded due to unwearable frames, and of the help we could give to others with that waste. This project is a reminder that alternative resources exist, providing a second chance at life not only for you but also for those in need.
Made out of 100% bio-based materials, I made sure it’s not only a cost-efficient solution but also a conscious choice for the environment.
These glasses are a testament to the fusion of creativity, resourcefulness, and eco-consciousness.
